2009 "Pearl Award" Presented at Stewards Conference

The 2009 "Pearl Award" recipient, Leona Turcotte, (centre in picture) has been a local union activist for nearly 13 years working in the Peterborough RCSS. She has been a steward in her workplace and a divisional officer on the Trenton Divisional board. She actively recruits new stewards for her workplace.
She sits on her workplace health and safety committee and is a certified health and safety representative.
Leona also sat on the historic "solidarity" negotiating committee for the union with Loblaws in 2005.
Leona has always been available to assist in fundraising initiatives of the local as well as volunteering at the local's various membership days.
Leona has volunteered as a palliative caregiver for a local nursing home for the last 15 years.
Leona's nominator states, " Leona is kind, caring and compassionate about people and issues that affect them, in the workplace and in her personal life".
"Leona is well deserving of this award and her dedication to this local union is greatly appreciated", says Local 1000A President Kevin Corporon.
